The Science

Skincare the skin
recognises.

The science of Shata Dhauta Ghrita — 100-times washed ghee.

Two ingredients your barrier already understands. A philosophy drawn from Ayurvedic texts thousands of years old. Prepared slowly, by hand, the way it has always been done.

The Botanicals

Every ingredient, traceable.

Shata Dhauta Ghrita is the foundation. Around it sits a small, deliberate set of botanicals, oils and actives — each chosen for what it does, sourced from where it grows best, named on the label.

Ancient Wisdom

Shata Dhauta Ghrita

100-times washed ghee.

Watch how we transform pure ghee through this sacred ritual
01 Start

Pure Cow's Ghee

The highest quality A2 ghee.

50 Transform

Halfway Transformation

Texture lightens, colour begins to shift.

100 Complete

Shata Dhauta Ghrita

Pure white, cooling, deeply nourishing.

The ancient art

In Ayurvedic texts dating back thousands of years, Shata Dhauta Ghrita is described as a divine preparation for the skin. The process involves washing pure cow's ghee with clean water exactly one hundred times.

This transformation isn't just physical — it's alchemical. The ghee loses its heavy, oily quality and gains a cooling, deeply penetrating nature that the skin readily absorbs.

Why 100 Times?

Each wash is intentional. Each wash transforms. One hundred isn't arbitrary — it's the threshold where ghee transcends its original form.

Deep Penetration

The refined molecular structure allows it to penetrate deeper into skin layers, not just sit on top.

Cooling Effect

Washing removes heat from the ghee, creating a cooling sensation that soothes and calms irritated skin.

Time-Honored

This isn't a shortcut or trend — it's a process refined over millennia of Ayurvedic practice.

The 100-Wash Process

So why wash ghee 100 times in copper? The process matters. Here's every step.

From cow to copper to your skin.

Process step 01: Gir Cow A2 Milk
01

Gir Cow A2 Milk

We start with A2 milk from Gir cows — a breed native to India known for producing the purest form of beta-casein protein. Only A2 beta-casein. Richer in essential fatty acids. No factory farms, no hormones.

Process step 02: Traditional Bilona Churning
02

Traditional Bilona Churning

The milk is hand-churned into butter using the traditional bilona method, then slowly converted into ghee over a low flame. This preserves the fatty acid structure that industrial processing destroys.

Bilona method and ghee fatty-acid preservation →
Process step 03: 100 Washes in Copper Vessels
03

100 Washes in Copper Vessels

The ghee is washed exactly 100 times in purified water using copper vessels. Each cold wash removes heavy lipid molecules, creating an increasingly translucent, lighter-than-air cream. What remains is light enough to absorb, not just sit on the surface.

Process step 04: Your Skin Recognises It
04

Your Skin Recognises It

The molecular structure of the final cream is so close to your skin's natural sebum that it absorbs completely. No clogged pores. No residue. Deep hydration your skin understands as its own language.

Process step 05: Testing & Numbering
05

Testing & Numbering

Every batch is tested for purity, texture, and absorption. It receives a unique batch number before being packaged in glass jars — never plastic. Every Gir cow is traceable. Every copper vessel is the same one used since day one.

The Foundation

Why Ghee?

For thousands of years, ghee has been revered not just as food, but as medicine. In skincare, it's nature's most perfect moisturizer.

Traditional Craft

The art of ghee

An ancient tradition passed down through generations — transforming simple butter into liquid gold through patience, precision, and time-honoured methods.

01

Churning

Fresh cream is churned into butter, separating the fat from the buttermilk.

02

Simmering

Butter is slowly heated, allowing water to evaporate and milk solids to separate.

03

Clarifying

The golden liquid is strained, leaving behind pure, shelf-stable ghee.

Ancient Origins

5,000 years of wisdom

Ghee's history stretches back to the Vedic period of ancient India, where it was considered sacred — used in religious ceremonies, as medicine, and as the ultimate expression of nourishment.

The ancient texts described ghee as the essence of milk — possessing the unique ability to carry other substances deep into the body's tissues, making it the perfect vehicle for skincare formulations.

The Benefits of Ghee for Skin

What ancient wisdom always knew.

Science is now confirming it.

Deep Nourishment

Rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K — essential fat-soluble vitamins that skin needs but rarely gets enough of.

Natural Barrier

Creates a protective layer that locks in moisture without clogging pores — the balance every skin type needs.

Anti-Aging

Rich in antioxidants that fight free radicals, helping to reduce fine lines and maintain skin elasticity.

Gentle Healing

Natural anti-inflammatory properties soothe irritation, redness, and minor skin conditions.

Bioavailable

The fatty acid profile of ghee closely matches human skin lipids, allowing for superior absorption.

All Skin Types

Despite being an oil, properly prepared ghee works for everyone — from dry to oily, sensitive to resilient.

Why TVAH ghee is different

We use A2 ghee sourced from free-grazing Gir cows, raised with care in open pastures and natural sunlight. Since they are free-grazing and get adequate sunlight, their natural circadian rhythm is in alignment and they get vitamin D synthesis through their skin as well. Due to this, the fatty acid profile in the milk and digestibility improves. In Indian tradition, Gir cows are revered for their resilience and vitality, nurtured by the land, the climate, and the rhythm of nature.

Their distinctive hump is often seen as a symbol of strength and endurance. For us, this is not just sourcing; it is a return to purity, provenance, and intentional care.

The milk is hand-collected only after the baby calf is fully satiated. The ghee is prepared using the ancient Bilona method — slow-churned and simmered slowly to retain all the nutrients.
